The river Hahnenbach is part of the giant project "Emscher Restoration". The restoration of the Hahnenbach included the following actions:
- Removing the concrete from stream bed and shore
- Expanding the rivers profile
- Building of two new passages for the water
- Expansion of a new estuary into the Boye
- Installation of a pumping station
